Commsoft’s CEO, Nick Godwin, will be addressing key decision makers in the aero-engine industry today (February 9) at the Aero-Engine USA Conference in Miami. With cost pressures facing the aero-engine industry as a whole, Godwin’s presentation will look at how advances and new developments in engine MRO IT can help companies control these financial pressures. His speech will illustrate, via live case histories about client companies, how effective planning and IT management can help to reduce rising costs.

Godwin’s speech will explain how MRO IT systems can help to address escalating costs in a variety of ways, including streamlining processes, forcing regulatory compliance, eliminating lost inventory and offering comprehensive, easier reporting. The IT systems’ ability to integrate with other systems, manage technical choice and standardise evaluation also leads to greater efficiency and cost savings.

His presentation will also advise delegates on what technology they should consider investing in and how this new technology can be incorporated into their current and future processes.

Commsoft Managing Director Nick Godwin addressed UBM Aviation´s Managing Aircraft Maintenance Costs conference in London on 7-8 December. He explained the numerous ways that MRO management systems save costs for operators and stressed the importance of implementing dedicated “best of breed” (BOB) maintenance systems such as OASES even when corporate ERP systems are already in place.

Godwin said cost-savings were achieved by, among other things, streamlining processes, forcing regulatory compliance, eliminating lost inventory, and providing simple reporting via a single point of data entry.

He also emphasized the significantly reduced operating costs and lower staff manning requirements associated with a more commercially and technically flexible BOB system such as OASES, when compared to data hungry, more rigid, BOB systems with their excessive over compliance demands.

He told delegates that MRO IT systems offered strong returns on investment – typically a multiple of three – but that the quality and speed of initial implementation was crucial. And he said the agility and user-friendliness of more flexible BOB systems provided outstanding value for organizations operating up to 50+ aircraft, even if a parent organization had an ERP in place.

Nearly 40 delegates from 20 customers in 9 countries attended the OASES User Group Workshop (UGW2011), hosted by Commsoft, producer of the market-leading OASES aircraft maintenance management software.

In the course of a highly productive day, Commsoft listened keenly to feedback from customers, discussed user issues, and briefed delegates on new functionalities and technologies.

Commsoft demonstrated its latest key development, a fleetwide graphical Integrated Maintenance Planning (IMP) tool, which will be progressively deployed in 2012 to further enhance comprehensive planning capabilities.

Users received “hands-on” briefings to help them individually maximise the benefits from new product upgrades including the latest Aircraft Maintenance Programme (AMP) revision management and AD/SB functionality among others. Four interactive work groups with specific detailed subjects were held, allowing OASES users to share their expert user expertise with Commsoft, thus driving the future OASES development programme.

Commsoft also introduced the AirVault document management and archiving system produced by its partner Critical Technologies which has already been successfully integrated by two customers and is in extensive use by major airlines.

And the company formally launched a Users Web Forum designed to capture, share and compare diverse customer requirements for planned new OASES functionalities.

Aircraft maintenance software specialist Commsoft has named Nick Godwin its new Managing Director as part of a management restructuring designed to ensure continuing customer focus at a time of rapid growth.

Godwin has been Business Development Director since joining Commsoft in 2008 after more than 25 years with British Aerospace and Rolls-Royce’s Data Systems & Solutions subsidiary. He will retain his business development and commercial responsibilities.

Commsoft founding co-director Gary Pollak will become Chairman of the Board of Commsoft with responsibility for the company’s overall financial health and direction.

Announcing Godwin’s appointment, Pollak said: “Since joining Commsoft, Nick has clearly shown that he has the leadership and management qualities required to ensure Commsoft's continuing growth while paying rigorous attention to the needs of our customers. I have every confidence that he is the right figure to take the company forward.”

James Stock, currently a Commsoft director and who has played a leading role in the development of its flagship OASES product, becomes Technical Director. He will concentrate on tightening and controlling all technical infrastructure, enhancing quality and customer delivery mechanisms.

Commsoft Director David Pusey, takes up the key role of Project Director and will utilise his extensive knowledge of OASES in ensuring successful customer implementations, training and account management.

Julian Beames, who joined Commsoft in December 2010 as Regional Manager with responsibility for growing sales and contracts, after 27 years in aerospace, becomes Business Operations Manager with a brief to enhance the company’s business processes.

Announcing the new management structure, Nick Godwin said:
“As a result of its sustained investment, Commsoft has secured ten new customers for OASES in 2011 in the face of intense competition. We have recently launched significant new aircraft maintenance programme revision management (AMP) and airworthiness directive / service bulletin evaluation (AD/SB) software. Major investments in a new commercial module, electronic non-routine cards (NRC) and single run cards will shortly offer significant benefits to MROs and corporate FBOs whilst new Line Maintenance Control functionality, linked to operations systems and EFBs, is already giving value benefits to airline users.

“Faced with these growth challenges, it has become clear that Commsoft needs to make important changes to its evolving business processes in order to serve our customers worldwide even better and to capitalise on this success. Particular focus will be placed on business operations, more closely linking customer account management to support and application developments. The principal aim of these changes is to strengthen focus on our customers, to improve the responsiveness and quality of Commsoft’s services.”
